Document Management

Hello,

as I’ve been assessing Solve360 only through a 1-user demo-version without file sharing, I ask you here about the documents management:

1. is there the possibility to organize docs in a structured way? As our projects involve alot of documentation, this might be helpful. Are there categories for documents?

2. what about version control? is there a real version control incorporated (what I mean in specific is the keeping of an old version when I upload a new one and offering me tracking)

3. can I use LINKS to documents on my server instead of weblinks or the document itself?

4. What do I do when 50GB are full?

Thanks

Greetings,

Solve360 uses a new and simpler approach to organize files than old folder hierarchy method.  Hierarchies are a simple way to classify / organize information but they are more useful to file away information than to benefit from / communicate it.  With Solve360 you put the files directly on the contact / project / business transaction page you are working on.  You preface the file(s) with a note etc to give them context e.g. “Phase one drafts” etc. and you can drag them around the page as their meaning / relevance changes over time.  Think of it as a whiteboard or piece of paper, a more natural way of working than a highly structured “system”.  Note… unlike all other web-based systems you can upload multiple files/photos at one time.

We recommend taking your documents the next step and moving to online documents that automatically support multiple users and revision control e.g. Google Docs / Zoho Docs / Editgrid etc.  You link to these online documents from within Solve360, just like you would with a normal file, to give the document context and relate to other information. http://docs.google.com

Linking to local files is possible but not practical.

If you need more than 50GB (which is a massive amount) we just allocate more storage to your account.  There is no limit.

Thanks for the quick answer.

If I get this right, there is NO version control, right?

Unfortunately I did not yet find a googledocs-like thing that supports huge DWG AutoCAD files and PDFs that are just a bit larger. But the Idea is great

As in our project we are generating quite a lot of tecnical and commercial documentation, some standardized structure would not be so bad smile

Thanks again smile

You are correct, we don’t do file version control—that sounds to much like a “system” for us wink

You can of course post the documents on the page with version context (group, note, caption etc).
