Here is something that bewilders me. For the majority of the world, the conventional start of the week is Sunday.
In the solve calendars in the form fields, it starts on Monday. Perhaps we can have a way to choose sunday as the start of the week?
That would make it easier to work with, say Google Calendar and other conventional calendars out there.
Any chance this can be put in asap?
Best,
Ronald Lee

Work in most of our markets starts on Monday and generally teams organize around weekly sprints ... Solve makes efforts to get in sync with that team rhythm. For the entrepreneurs using the weekends to get their real work done the weekends can be expanded on the right side of the grid.
From time-to-time it’s interesting to challenge the social norms and customs to see what happens
We understand some countries and use-cases differ and may make it a configurable option when we run out of mountains to move.

Hmm, apparently in Canada the calendars on my wall start on Sunday. So does the Google Calendar. I take it that that’s an anomaly and the rest of the world starts on Monday?
How about this, how about giving us the option of a Sunday or Monday start of the week perhaps?

Have the throw my hat in to support Monday as the starting point. It gives me a clear idea of my clients’ work weeks even if I do (from time to time) work on the weekends.

I always wondered why some western calendars started on Sunday and ended the following Saturday. If you actually think about it, for today’s society of 5+2 it really doesn’t make much sense, since if you have the weekend off, and want to plan something it’s a bit inconvenient to have the weekend split on two lines. I’ve heard that having the Saturday as part of the weekend came in when Henry Ford gave his workers Sat and Sun off, but I guess they just didn’t adjust the calendar system
I’ve gotten used to the calendar starting on the Monday (old habits are hard to break).
It seems that Solve is also trying to keep up with international standards:
“Position in the week - The official ISO 8601 Calendar Standard states that Monday is the first day of the week.” from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunday
Re Google Calendar, you can adjust the start day of the week in Settings so it matches your Solve calendar.
Agreed it would be nice if Solve also gave the option, but like they said, more mountains to move.

To me it is just a brain thing. I am used to viewing calendars in any form with weekends on both ends so I tend to view the second square on the calendar view as Monday. Then I have to remind myself Sunday is on the other end. Actually it makes more sense to have the days together for reasons already mentioned.
It isn’t a deal breaker.

I mentioned it in a different thread and got the same response. It makes no sense and causes errors. This is very un-solve like in my opinion.

I just ran into one of those “It makes no sense and causes errors” situations noted by bdesilva. I was checking my tasks for today and thought it looked a little light. I then looked at my tasks for tomorrow (Tuesday) and realized that I had slotted 3 quotes that need to be completed today (Monday) into tomorrow.
Couldn’t figure out how I had made such a glaring error(as the quotes are critical)until I went to move them back into today’s tasks where they belong. I am a “Sunday is the first day of the week” person and I automatically placed these tasks into the second day of the week which, for me is Monday.
Based on this potential for mistakes, I really believe that we should have the option to choose the work week layout. I know I will make this mistake again and it could turn out to be disastrous somewhere down the road. “Just a brain thing” as Bookkeeping puts it is a very important consideration. This is the kind of thing that has been hardwired in me for 50 years and I really don’t want to have to think too hard about it. If I want to challenge by brain, I’ll learn a new language or learn how to play the guitar. I don’t want to rethink how I conceptualize the layout of the work week.

I can see the rational behind having Monday as the start date, however I have to add my 2 cents that I don’t like it. The reason is simply that all other calendars start on Sunday, and I’ve done as “stormer” did above more than once. I missed an appt. with a banker because of it, in fact. Here is one vote for having Sunday as the start date!

I agree. I have struggled with systems forcing me to Sunday start which seems counter intuitive.

Trying not to beat a dead horse…
While I agree most businesses start their workweek on Monday. (I try) The issue seems to be more of what the brain tells you when you look at a calendar layout in grid form. In my world when I look at a calendar the weekends are on both ends so when I look at the Solve calendar in 7 day format, which I do, I tend to think of the first day as Sunday and the last day as Saturday because that is what my brain is used to seeing in paper form. So while I agree it makes more sense to have the days together at the end of the week that is not usually the case. So maybe Solve will change the trend and others will eventually follow suit? I agree this isn’t the most important project on the plate and I am willing to deal with it the way it is.
BTW…I think the support forums here are great! How many of you are there hiding behind the “Engineering SpecialOps” user?

I’ve often wondered that, but would rather not know; kind of like the masking of super heroes!

I’m not suggesting that Solve changes the start day for the work week. Since there certainly seems to be a difference of opinion, I am suggesting that Solve figures out some way to allow us customize the work week view. Ideally, I would prefer only to have Monday to Friday show up as options, as that is my work week.
Anyway, I’m probably splitting hairs here. It would be nice to have the choice. I appears that others view the week using the same brain map that I have, others prefer Monday as their start. I have all kinds of custom fields in my Contact and Project Blog forms that are different than other users. I am thinking that this customization should translate to the start date for the work week.

I’ve accidentally scheduled follow ups on Saturday, thinking it was Friday because of the way the calendar is laid out. It’s visually different from other calendars, including Outlook, is annoying, and one of the few things I really don’t like about Solve.

Well, I’ve given my 2 cents worth. I hope Solve looks at this and recognizes that a small change would make a world of difference. If its not do-able, let us know. If it is , please try to work it into a future upgrade.
Thx

Totally agree that providing the option to choose your view setting is the important thing here. I am a big fan of google calendars view called “custom view (7 days)” because my calendar starts on whatever day it is today (eg. If today is Thursday, my calendar starts on Thursday and I am looking at the next 7 days ahead). Even though this is my current view of choice (and works for my business) I know it won’t be right for everyone, and with a topic that seems to have generated quite a bit of energy, it would seem that providing the user the option to choose their own view would make a lot of sense.
PS. Been away for awhile, but a HUGE Solve fan and glad to be back

Count one more vote for being able to choose start date. EVERY other calendar and CRM program I have ever used has started on Sunday or given me the option to start on Sunday. You say it takes getting used to. Fine. But when I am trying to integrate with Google Apps, changing context is tough.

Wow, this thread really generated heat. I have to say I usually love solve making me find new and better ways to work. But when there is so much potential for error there is no excuse for giving us a choice. One of my people won’t even work with it any more she made so many mistakes just by ‘working’ without noticing the calendar.
You say once you’ve moved other mountains. I don’t think this can wait. This is ingrained stuff. No excuse guys.
