I’ve had this in other CRM’s and think it would be a valuable addition to Solve - in the company view being able to see all Notes and Call Logs from contacts.
A bit like the email feature, but instead when you look at a company you see a history of all notes that have been logged against it’s contacts. This way you can get a more consolidated picture of what’s going. In some cases I currently have to flick through ten or so different contacts for the one company just to understand the contact history.

This is why I log virtually all my activity under the Company, not the Contact.
At the end of the day, we do business with Companies. This also prevents ‘loosing’ data if a Contact moves on from one Company to another.
Then I have Section Headers called: Meetings, and Calls and have a custom field where I enter the name of the person in the Meeting or Call
Might not work for you but maybe worth a try

I’m starting to do the same thing Dave is doing so I can see all the activity for a particular client in one place.

and I use the person Contacts are to keep more ‘high touch’ aspects of the client relationship: nice guy, name of his dog etc.

I was assuming that contact info was being streamed into the company activity records. Hmm. I’m thinking about Dave and Gina’s procedure and I’m not certain that would work for us. In my mind, its kind of “all or nothing” and, unless I’m missing something, any emails that I send to the contact will end up in thier activities as opposed to those of the company. I still run the same risk of “losing” the email communications with the contact (unless I go through the procedure of includeing the company name or ID in the email…but that just seems like way too much to think about every time I want to track an email) There would tend to be a certain disjointedness in this process I would think.
I have to think this one through. I dont believe this is currently a huge issue for us….we use Solve to track Projects more than Companies or Contacts. I would think, though, that if you do want to maintain a consistent tracking or all communications with a company that the contact activities should filter through to the company actitivities. I’m not sure what that does for storage in the system too…does it duplicate the info or just store it and make it viewable from different windows? I would think the latter.
Thoughts?

I think if this were to be implemented storage wouldn’t be an issue. With the email my understanding is it’s only stored once. I’d expect the notes would not be replicated from contact to company, just ‘viewed’ in the company view. Like an option or a check box that says “view contact notes in company”.
Our procedure is to put all notes against the Company but this is prone to error and we’ve tripped up on it a couple of times now. Best we’ve got at the moment though, and I like Dave’s idea of using section headers, I’ll try that one.

Email shows in company and contact if the contact’s email uses a domain unique to the business and the website is listed in the company.

Thanks Gina. This brings up another issue I had with importing contact data. All of my contacts were imported with addresses, website, email address etc BUT data not imported for Companies. Most of the 600 or so companies that I imported have one field filled in, which is company name. I understand that this is being upgraded so as to allow for various company fields to be imported as well. Since the company website was not imported into the Company website field, I was not aware that contact emails could be tracked in the company activities pane. Pretty cool.
The probelm is that I have to figure out a way to get the remaining 599 (or so) website URL’s into their applicable company form fields.
Any ideas?

Unless a re-import after the upgrade will work I haven’t a clue.

I have asked Solve for some guidance on this in a separate post. Hopefully they have some ideas.
Thx

just to follow up on the email topic: you can also edit/customize which is the criteria that Solve uses in order to pull the emails into the Contact or Company record. Just click the Edit button on Emails activity

I use that feature constantly. Once instance is for my project blogs, where I have created a “Project #“ field from the unique direct link code provided by Solve whenever a project is created. I have emails directed to the project number which I inject (usually) directly into the subject field of the email. I like having it in the subject line rather than hidden elsewhere so that I can immediately see it is customer/vendor email replies.
