Moving Activities from Contact to Project

I thought I had seen this somewhere but could not find it on the forums. I just made a log of a telephone call to a contact that, upon completion, I realized would be better placed in one of the project blogs I currently have that contact assigned to. I can move the note to another Contact but I dont know how to move it to a Project.

My previous CRM had the option to “file this note” either a “Deal” or a “Case” (both similar to Project Blogs) and a drop down of all my Projects would be available.  I would then choose the appropriate Project and the notes would be copied (NOT MOVED) there. Am I able to move activity data from Contact to Project? Having the option to move OR copy would be nice as quite often the info is relevant to both. Moving it removes the activity from its original location where it may be required for tracking.

You can move activities from one item to another using drag and drop http://norada.com/forums/viewthread/1113/

PS: We expect to announce a new feature “showing related activities” next month.

That is the Thread I was looking for….thank you BUT Carl Benfield had posted the following regarding this feature and his question was never answered. It turns out to be the same question I asked today. His post read as follows:

“This looks fantastic, but I couldn’t work out how to go from a contact to a project blog. I’m running a mac.  I tried opening another window with a project blog, but the file did not drop into place in the new window.I also tried dragging it up to the main bar at the top and hovering over the project blogs tab, but it not open up the project blog area.  I fear I am being quite stupid.  Any clues?”

I havent been able to figure it out either. Unlike Carl I am running on a PC but same issue.

Here is a quick screencast showing the drag and drop technique http://screencast.com/t/MmI1MTYwZWEt

Does this help?

Thanks for providing another “aha” moment. Just minimize the contact screen…then move the activity to the required project. That was easy. Would have been helpful if someone had answered Carl’s original querie with the screencast. Nice feature. Looking forward to being able to copy (or relating activities as noted earlier) rather than move but this works for now.

Stormer, thanks for picking up on my earlier post, and also to Special Ops for producing a nice simple screencast.  Yes an “aha” moment indeed.  This is going to be very useful. Is this now included in one of the tutorials?  It would be nice to know that my team will get trained on it as they watch the standard videos.

Yes, it is very useful. Used it again yesterday. Made a call to a contact from her contact window and logged the call under her name. Then I realized that the call would be better tracked in the Project that I was working on with her. “Moving” the call log is not ideal, however, as it would be handy to be able to have a record of all communications with her. By moving the call log I lose the link to the contact. Solve mentioned that they are working on a solution for this. Just to put my two cents in Solve Ops guys, I would prefer to have the notes in both places. (.i.e. I have the option to Move the note or copy the note to another contact or blog).

Great idea!
