Schedule a followup

I asked this a long time ago when this Activity got modified but would like to bring it up again.

I would REALLY like it if when we completed a ‘Schedule Follow up’ activity it didn’t cross everything out. Here is my reasoning for this. Hopefully more of you feel the same way.

1) I use the ‘Log a call’ activity to log the little notes that I want to keep, such as : “Talked to Joe, he’s still keen on using our solution, just waiting to hear from his boss.“ To me that is a Phone Call log

2) I use the ‘Schedule a Follow up’ activity when there is a major event, meeting or conference call planned at a specific date and time. Then I use the Details field in the ‘Schedule Follow up’ to write the meeting minutes etc.

When you have lots of ‘Schedule a Follow up’ or they are quite long in your Contact or Company record it’s a pain to see everything crossed off. I really really don’t see the purpose in it.

To me the Schedule Follow up activity should have a little check box like tasks, and it should cross off just the title at most, or maybe just grey it out. The fact that a Schedule a Follow up has a specific start and end date/time means that at the end it is completed anyways.

The only other way to do this is two use 2 activities instead of 1 for every event: use the Schedule a Follow Up so that the date and time are available in the calendar, check off the internal attendees, reminders etc, and then to use either the Log a Call or Formatted Note activity for the meeting minutes. But this means 2 activities for every event you have instead of one, which just seems silly to me and is not an elegant solution, and makes it awkward for co-workers to read and figure out wtf is going on.

So, please can you change the fact that the entire Schedule a Follow Up gets crossed off (I think it used to be that way), or can someone please suggest a better way to log meeting minutes that are tied to a Calendar event? Or please convince me that the current solution is the best way to do it, maybe I’m missing something.

Wish list: also be able to add a Task inside the current activities, again so that everything stays together

Have a great weekend all, I’m looking forward to my 100meg Fibre Optic connection being installed tomorrow!

@ Adrian, yes that is a good idea.

But I found this work around which is perfect: I added a custom form field text box to the ‘Schedule a follow up’ activity and this section does not get crossed off once the task is completed. Perfect!

@ Solve360: is it possible to make the text box that we can add in the custom form fields as wide as the regular text section?

Am I being thick? I can’t see the ability to change the “Schedule a follow up activity” in the custom form area.  Can anyone help?

“Schedule a follow up” is properly described as an “Event” activity, you should see an option named “Edit event fields” in the form designer.

Great!  I’m partially relieved that I’m not that stupid after all.  I had been diverted by the “Placeholder for standard Event fields”  - I assumed this was still under development and nothing could be added.  I now see that it is just occupying space where the standard fields will ultimately be displayed.

Yeah, the “placeholder” is just to provide a visual indication that your custom fields will be shown below the standard set.

Hopefully this can change to. It would be awesome to be able to place our custom fields where we want. Not a deal breaker by any means, but a nice to have
