Error modifying field record: System Error

I get the red “Error modifying field record: System Error” message almost every time I try to add an item to a pulldown menu (“Select Box”).

About half the time, the change doesn’t seem to “stick” even though I click outside of the box to save the change.

Even when the little red triangle does flash in the corner indicating the change has been saved, when I exit and refresh, the change is often not there in my pulldown menu. And just now when I returned home and relaunched Solve360 after several hours, a host of changes I made to Select Boxes earlier today had now vanished.

This is happening both from my Windows XP Sp3 machine, and my MacBook (both running FireFox 3.03).

I’ve just closed all my other tabs, closed my other apps, and relaunched a single browser window just to be sure it wasn’t an out of memory issue since I customarily have a lot of tabs open.

One theory: I wonder if it might have something to do with having Solve360 open and running under my same log-in on two computers at once; the MacBook at work, and the Windows machine at home. Although, other changes seem to have “stuck,” such as new records.

The error is indicating that the service is not accepting the value entered.  In this case the only thing that could be related to the client side is if you were actually logging into different accounts on the same machine (one of which did not have access to modify this field).  You can be logged in from different computers.

Can you email us the field name and value you were trying to enter so we can take a closer look at it (contact info on the website).  Thz.

It seems to be standard text. For instance, repeated attempts to enter the value “Trade Journal” have resulted in only the letter “T” being accepted.

The field names themselves have proven difficult to change, too. Are hyphens and parentheses allowed in field names?

Actually I was able to complete the entry “Trade Journal” in your list, but I do see a problem expanding the list (same as you reported).  I’ll check with our team in the morning to determine what the cause is.

Hyphens and parentheses etc are allowed in field names.

Great, thanks for checking.

A couple more clues:

That particular value is now back to simply “Trade” even after a Refresh. Is there a problem with multi-word values that contain a space between the words, perhaps? Although, other such values like TV News and TV Talk have been accepted OK, space and all.

The red warning, “Error modifying field record: System Error,” almost always displays right away, as soon as I click on “Add New Option,” and even before I start typing to replace the blue highlighted text “New option.” So actually, the error has started before any new value at all has been typed in.

It appears to be a total size issue, I’ll know more once we did into it.  I’m certain it’s something simple we can nip quickly, but here from the outside it always looks like magic.

Both the fields “Non-Media Type” and “Media Type” have now reverted back to where they were yesterday afternoon, without any of the changes I made last night, or that you made by completing the entry “Trade Journal,” or that I then made again before knocking off for the night.

If it’s a total size issue, it’s strange, because the changes did apparently stick for 2-3 hours at one point. And then snapped back when I logged back in this morning.

Note: My other computer at the office is still on and may have a Solve360 window open, if that has anything to do with it.

Hi Peter, Size increased.  Can you relogin and confirm?

Yes, thanks so much, I readded those values to the Select Box in Type, Non-Media, and Type, Media, and they now appear on the pulldown menus.

The size limit appears to have been around 75 characters before. Do you know what the size was increased to, in case we bump up against the limit again?

Actually the “size” does not correlate to entry size, number of entries etc but it is currently 20x what it was before.
