How to Auto BCC in Chrome

Just figured this out tonight so I’m still testing; hope it helps:

1) Install the extension Blank Canvas (this allows you to run Grease Monkey Scripts in Chrome): https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/pipnnjjknlabchljabhmnpdfpdobpnkk

Note you might have to restart Chrome.

2) Install the Auto BCC script from userscripts: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2255

Make sure it installs into Blank Canvas and NOT as a native Chrome extension.

3) Refresh Gmail, create a new message, input a “To” address and then a pop-up will ask you where to auto BCC all new messages.  Input your dropbox address.

Now whenever you create a new message or reply/forward, your dropbox will be put in the BCC box.  Small bug: you must click the “reply” button in the upper right, not the one at the bottom, or it won’t put in the BCC.

Optionally you can edit the script and add “var gBccPopup = true” which should prompt you each time to ask whether you want to BCC the dropbox.  Or you can just delete the address out of the BCC field manually if most of your emails go to the dropbox.

Does this only work in Chrome or will it work for Firefox too?  I’m pretty happy using FireFox, so haven’t played with Chrome at all and not sure what advantages there might be to that.

Should I automatically Bcc all my emails to Solve360?

Although auto-forwarding emails is indeed possible and may appear as a reasonable thing do to, we don’t recommend it.

1) Like all other types of activities recorded on a contact’s history emails are meant to contain high value information that can be viewed at-a-glance to understand the relationship between you and your client.  Blindly pushing all emails into the activities section dilutes the value of the information on the client record and will require scanning more information each and every time your team reviews a client record.  It’s more efficient to click a button, or forward the important story-telling emails.  If you need to review all emails you can always search your personal email archive.

2) Emails are personal by nature; the workgroup email is shared by nature.  When someone sends you an email they are trusting that you will have the judgment as to whether or not to share the information.  By auto-forwarding these emails you are removing the human filter and somewhat betraying the trust of people communicating with you.

Your mileage may vary, but there’s the preverbal warning and preemptive “we told you so raspberry

This is somewhat outdated now too because of the Gmail plugin and the #Solve360 label capabilities.

I have to say that I completely agree with Solve’s thinking on this. Especially if you are using Gmail, it’s much faster to search in Gmail, and you get the added benefit of the email threading.

Also true! Google Apps user: Check out http://norada.com/forums/viewthread/2666/ (if you haven’t already) if never want to BCC another email ever again!
