“Created By” Field?

Is there a way to tell who created or imported a given contact?

With 11 of us importing Contacts, there will be duplicates, with various notes added by various people. We’d like to know who created which contact.

Is there a way to build a list of all contacts created by a given person?

Our users want to know they can get their own lists back out, such as when they change jobs or if they want to export just their data for some other use.

There is a log of all changes under the Activities window; choose “Show recent activity for”.  We will also be expanding the detail available on each specific contact, blog etc (you can see from the log the data is being recorded).

When contacts are imported a new category is automatically created (labelled with the current date) and the imported contacts are automatically related to it.  I’d suggest renaming the category after the import with the person’s name.  You can also export by any search criteria (however I don’t think you can search by creator currently).

Contacts can be exported by Category; users can export the familiar “simple” list that work well with Excel etc. and administrators can use a special “export all data” which is provided in an XML format that preserves the company/category relationships and all sub-activities (an unusual feature).  This file can be loaded into Excel/MS Access etc.

Actually, when importing if a match is found for the record’s First name and Last name the record is updated; a duplicate is not created.

Thanks. Think I’ll put “Search by Creator” over on the Feature Request list. My opinion is it would increase adoption rates by users who generally approach this from the standpoint of, “You’ll get my Outlook Contacts WYPTFMCDH.” (Which stands for, of course, When You Pry Them From My Cold Dead Hands!!)

Re handling of duplicates: I’m assuming given the way you’re approaching this whole project that when a match is found and the record is updated, it’s additive—all the notes from both Outlook records wind up in your Background field, concatenated together. (Now that’s a word I haven’t used much since I took BASIC 25 years ago.)

I think we can handle this one.  Thanks for the tip, look forward to it.

No, since background is a simple field it is updated (contents replaced).

I was going to reply here on this topic but will start a new thread instead, titled Handling of Duplicates on Import.
