For our Google Apps clients…
Alongside each Gmail message the new Solve360 Gmail Gadget shows off a clean, at-a-glance view of everything your team knows about the person behind the message - their contact info, who else they’ve talked to, what’s planned and any other special details your team likes to track. From here you can manage the client’s information or jump to related items just like you can from within the full-application.
It requires no special login. Yes, it’s magic.
Learn more at http://goo.gl/fgKx4
Current Google Apps clients simply need to click “Manage this domain”, update permissions for Solve360 and in 5-10 minutes relogin.
When adding a contact through the Gadget the email address is populated in the new record automatically, but not the sender’s proper (full) name. The Google API currently does not provide this info but we’ll haunt them for it.

Awesome stuff Steve. I’ve been playing with it for the last hour and this may be my tipping point to Solve360.
Quick question for you, not sure if it’s a bug but when adding a contact through the app’s interface, you guys automatically create the “Add a view for linked emails” section. When creating a contact in Gmail’s interface, it does not happen automatically.
Also, some feedback regarding the Add Contact button in Gmail. When you click to add a Contact, I would suggest removing the button from view or at least changing it to “Close Contact” or something. After you create the contact from Gmail, if you accidently click Add Contact again, it will create another record in Solve with all your previous information deleted. The first contact is already created/saved in Solve, but this is very confusing because you don’t know if your first contact was actually created unless you go into Solve, or close your email and bring it back up again.
Great work on the integration!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now we’re over the (somewhat notable) hurdle of getting this into place, we’ll naturally turn our focus to the additional tweaks such as automatically adding the linked-emai activity, improve messaging etc. It’s great to hear you’ll put it to work, thanks for the tips

Absolutely love this new feature and can’t wait for my emails to link automatically to each contact.

Hello guys,
The problem is that my company uses standard Gmail, not Google Apps… it all works nice without Google Apps in our case so we don’t see any reason to pay for Apps. Now, the time the Gmail Gadget is released… I do want to use it with standard Gmail. What can you do about it?
Thanks,
Lukasz

Lukasz, Google Apps standard is free. Google’s Gmail contextual gadgets only work with Google Apps API.

Thanks, I did not know that:) I’m going to give a try to the gadget very soon.

where can I find instructions on how to set up google apps regarding:
Current Google Apps clients simply need to click “Manage this domain”, update permissions for Solve360 and in 5-10 minutes relogin.
what do I update under manage this domain? I am new to Google Apps and Solve360.

|
|

The first step is to click the “Add it now” button on Solve’s marketplace page located at http://is.gd/eRwaU then follow the instructions.

I have solve360 connected to my google apps. The gadget is working on my other computer that is set up to the other email address under our domain, it’s just giving me the error.
we have a two user apps account, one is working, one isnt.

Google’s made the fix and seems new clients can authorize their gadgets again, w00t!

This feature is huge.
Two questions:
When using the Solve360 Gmail Gadget, clicking “add this contact” only autofills the email address field. Is it possible add autofilling the “first name” and “Last Name” fields?
Second, is there a way to enable users to expand the vertical length of the Gmail daget? Some of us have huge monitors and hate scrolling ;)

Hi Erik, your answers are both “not at this point”. The gadget is still young and these would be nice improvements. Thanks for sharing.

I too was really excited about this, but then I found that this is only for Google Apps, not Google Accounts. Google Accounts is just much better than Google Apps, so I dropped my app account in favor of the Google Account (it has more stuff).
And there is no easy way for upgrading a Google Account to an App account and I’m not sure how the Apps account plays with other regular Google Accounts (ie. Google Docs), so it looks like I won’t be using Apps until they make it better.
It’s such a shame that you can’t make the Gmail Gadget work with Google Accounts, this would have been a huge leap forward if you could.

Google released the Contextual Gaget APIs only for Google Apps, perhaps it’s their way to one-up Google accounts and get businesses to focus their attention there. All of our Google integrations support both Google Accounts and Google Apps where possible.

Yeah I agree. I was totally excited about this too and tried to set-up my google apps account and then found that my website is hosted within my companies (bigger website) and it isn’t possible for me to use google app’s and keep my current configuration…Secondly, I am a bit confused because there are companies like Rapportive, batchbook and bantamlive that have this stuff built into standard gmail accounts (not google apps). Any chance you guys will look into this? Again as Ron stated above this would be huge!

You may already be aware, but Google Apps is in the process of making available to all Google Apps users the same services available to Google accounts. I believe this transition is to be completed by first quarter 2011.

This would be very useful for me as well. So many contacts have their standard business info in their signature, it would be an incredible time saver to have 360 auto populate the fields or be able to select the info and have a right-click contextual option to add it to a field. Of course I’m not a programmer and have no idea how difficult that would be to implement. ;)

+1 for an auto populate.
By the way, I’ve noticed that the new Contextual Fields feature is not working inside the Gmail gadget. Are others having this problem?

@Jesse Please clear your browser’s file cache, restart the browser and login again to ensure you’re running the latest version of our site. We made a couple small changes in this area recently to support contextual fields.

Steve, I’m stoked to implement this new feature. But the slow kid here is going to need some assistance.
You indicated to “click on Manage This Domain, and update permissions for Solve360”
I’m good on the first half….but can you explain what you mean by “update permissions”? I’ve searched all through the Google Apps backend for our site, and I’m not finding it. Am I to disable Solve 360, and re-enable?
thanks!
Jeremy

Hey Jeremy, That step is only required for folks that had installed Solve into their Google Apps domain before this feature was introduced. If you don’t see it you don’t need to do it specifically as it was included when you added Solve to your domain. The typical steps are highlighted in the video at http://goo.gl/fgKx4 Do you see the Gadget under each email message?
|
|
|
|
|
Steve,
The video was a great visual cue to show me what to look for. It appears that I DO have the gadget in my gmail….however. When I tested it, it didn’t pull up the Solve360 contact (which I know exists) for that person, but rather gave me a button to create a new contact for that person. Now I’m wondering if my contacts are properly synced?
Thoughts?
|
|
|
|
|
The gadget triggers on the message’s FROM email address i.e. if the message’s FROM address matches an email address in Solve you will see Open instead of Create.

Love using this gadget - very handy!
One question - when I click “Add this contact”, why does it only fill in the email address? Is it not possible to fill in the name as well?
thanks
Richard

Thanks for that!
why does it only fill in the email address?
Google’s API does not currently provide the name. We expect soon it will, then we’ll be on it.

I can not get the email contact to synch from Gmail (apps) in to Solve360.
I have updated permissions (everything can synch). When I click the “Add Contact” button in the email, it then creates a completely empty contact in S360. I understand that the name info will not fill in, but I also get no email either; no fields filled at all.
Please help!

Adding another apparent anomaly: I also found that if I add a contact that is private to me through the GMAIL “ADD CONTACT” button, I couldn’t find the contact inside of Solve360. When I went back inside GMail and opened the contact and shared with one of my work-groups, it then appeared in S360. Is that the way adding a contact thru the GMail Gadget is supposed to work?

Per Ronald, Terry and Jesse’s comments above, is there any update on the ability to use the Gmail gadget with a standard Gmail account? Definitely itching for that option here!

|

I haven’t heard of Google planning adding this to normal Gmail accounts. My guess is they won’t. The trend we’ve seen is generally switching from Gmail to Google Apps and that’s where most of the integration action is. It’s free too

Good to know, thanks for the reply Special Ops!

Hey Special Ops, I guess what I was hoping for is something similar to what Rapportive and Batchbook have using regular gmail. Is this something you could add?

Is there a trick to getting your gadget to always be there?
One minute its there and POOF its gone. I have to log off and back in to get it to reappear.

Is there a way to link the receiver of the email to Solve instead of the sender?
I send emails to clients with quotes and the like, and I would like to be able to link the email to the client Solve360 record.

It can disappear sometimes but I find clicking F5 (short-cut for refresh) always brings it back.
