Improve Mailchimp sync

Hi,
I am aware of the limited API from Mailchimp. But since it’s an amazing software I’ve spend some time to find an effective workaround.

I found that one way should be to let all new subscriber sign up for newsletter via Solve360, instead of(or as well as) directly to Mailchimp. My goal is, and must be, to make the CRM-system the center of the world(for our business at least).

By doing this we can then push/update subscribers to Mailchimp. If someone unsubscribe, Mailchimp automatically send us an email and we unmark this manually in Solve360. It shouldn’t happened that often since Mailchimp only allow < 1% subscribers per campaign.

BUT, this demand some improvement from the Solve360-push. Today it’s way to primitive. It must look more like the integration with Google Contacts.

1. Choose which field to push, including custom fields.
2. Choose which Category Tags in Solve360 should become Interest Group in Mailchimp. Interest Group is for the subscriber to choose an area of interesting.

These lack of basic functionality can not be blame on Mailchimp API. On the contrary it could make the integration go from almost useless to almost complete.

Despite my hard words on this integration I am very impressed by your work. That’s why I find this limitation so sad.

All the best,
Jon

Hi again,
I have studied the MailChimp Api now and can not really see the limitation of doing this a two way integration. The API is complete and the documentation is clear.

Please explain to me why this integration is only an one way push instead of an intelligent two update sync?

Jon,
who love Solve360

Since no one is talking back I might as well continue talk to my self(and to anyone who might listen). grin Just kidding of course.

Digging deeper to the problem I addressed above I have come to these effective conclusions:

1. MailChimp now support several groups which gives you(and me) the opportunity to have one visible group to the user and one hidden reflecting the categories in Solve360. Sweet.

2. I needed postal code in MailChimp from Solve360 while I had no use for homephone in Solve360. So I mixed a little with the label tags in MailChimp and got Solve360 to push postal code to my existing postal code field in MailChimp, which I could also set format after the fist import.

3. I then hidden all the left over field from both the user and me(column) and got pretty happy with the result.

I hope I help some one else as well. Maybe that could compensate for my wining above. grin

Two things about what you wrote above.

First, what you are suggesting is that Solve360 creates it’s own contact opt-in form that people can fill out (like Mailchimp, Aweber, Google Contacts does) which then gets sent back to Solve for creating a new contact with populated fields which can then be pushed to mailchimp, OR sent to mailchimp at the same time, right?

That WOULD be cool, convenient and a work/time saver. It wouldn’t even be hard to do, could be done via email parsing (but that’s old school).... what do you guys think Steve?

Second, you mentioned that Mailchimp CAN allow for two way integrating, like Constant Contact can? That would be awesome if that can be worked into Solve. I’d love things, such as reporting of opened newsletters/emails, unsubscribes, etc….

I give a strong vote for two way integration with MailChimp.
