Since the beginning of time we’ve provided an iCal feed which enables clients to see their Solve360 events in their Google calendar(s). The constraints with the feed are that it depends on Google to pull the data (which can be slow), they run one-way and are read-only.
We’re starting to test a new real-time calendar sync feature. The first step is to fully burn-in the push of events from Solve360 to Google. If you’re interested in helping to get this exciting feature ready for prime time, please reach out to our support team and they’ll hook you up.

While you are at it, please attend that time zones are set correctly. For the current version, after performing “Add by URL” thing, I see Solve360 calendar is using GMT +00:00 instead of the local hour which is GMT+9hr (since it is read-only calendar, I cannot change the TZ). It works alright in the Google calendar views but in the Google synced Outlook, everything is shifted by 9hrs.
Thanks.

Ensure your Solve360 account is set to the correct time zone under Workspace > My Account > Local settings. By default it will auto-detect based on your network location. This is only about 90% accurate.

We’ve expanded the test to our main service now. It can be enabled by the Solve360 administrator under Workspace > Add-ons. Report any feedback directly to our team (not the forums).

When using the published iCal link I can see the events as well as the tasks that have due dates (either all day or slotted time). When using this sync feature it’s not pulling in the tasks which isn’t giving a full view of the day. Will this be offered as this syncing tool evolves? Please say yes… :)
Also, will this eventually be a two way sync?
|
|
|
|

It is our intent to do both.

22 minute response time. Amazing! Glad that both are in the works. I know you don’t usually like to give dates until you’re near completion which keeps me guessing… The nice thing is that you guys are lightning quick so I won’t be guessing for long I suspect.

feature is activated here and its working fine as far as i can say.
are there plans to have the synch working both ways? so that calendar entries in google are reflected in solve? would be great.

We do have plans to continue to extend this feature and at some point make it two way. However for most cases Solve -> Google is what’s called for. We’re progressing slowly and carefully to ensure it is as good as it can be
|
|
|
|
|
good to hear that. we’ll patiently wait :)
ppl here get along with the google calender much easier and so we would like to use it as the main tool.
for that to happen we need the 2 way synching.
also the ability to add entries into the calendar on the smartphone depends on the 2way synch.
thanks for listening

If you add the event using Solve’s mobile interface it will flow to Google’s calendar now. Same applies to the Gmail gadget etc.
|
|
|

|
yes, thanks for the tip.
however its about 10times faster to add a date into the native handy calendar then starting solve in the browser and solve is all about efficiency, isnt it? :)
but it can work, thats true.

I have an admin account and an account I use for actual customer tracking
I can get the admin Solve to sync with admin Google
but can’t get joe.m Solve to sync with joe.m Google
I really don’t have time to try 50 permutations of “all” or specific attendees for each calendar - just would like to know how i can get internal attendee events for joe.m to show up on google joe.m
thanks
—-wait - not sure what’s happening, but i created a new test event which showed up, but old events aren’t showing up (but the admin does show old events) - must be a quirk

It may take some time for the old events to show e.g. 20m or so because all events are synced one at a time and that takes some time. New events will be synced when the backlog is done.
After that adding/updating a single event will appear to be almost instant, because the overhead of syncing a single event is low.

This seems to be happening for us too. Admin account - Google Syncs (and viewable in gmail as Solve calendar) but not for our other two non admin accounts. They neither sync and their Gmail does not have a solve calendar.
Also multiday events are not transferring across as Multi day events just appearing as 1 day in gmail.

thank you for the quick reply Spec Ops…
yes there was a problem with my side configuration of sync between Solve and Gmail. I believe there was a problem on my part in setting up certain information or lack of it for the user accounts.
However the multiday is not working, and have sent the screen grabs to support for their help.
Once again I do really appreciate the support we have been receiving. It is far superior to the other companies I have used (especially the bigger ones). What’s more is that if a “trial” user can receive this support it just speaks volumes about your company.
Keep up the great work!

Hi I spoken with the support team, and they are looking into it, but I think I found out what is happening with the sync of multi-day events, It is based around being an iCal user.
So..
In solve
For an event If the check box for “all day” is selected and you have a start and end date that covers multi days (Eg. 19/1 to 25/1) Solve creates separate all day events for the date range, and when it syncs across to Gmail (although it seems to be only sending the first date). So I changed the way I entered the date range in Solve using the same dates but not selecting “all day” solve creates the multi day event (although in solve it sill looks like a multi all day events across the date range with the exception the first day has a time and the last day has a time) it exports correctly to gmail as a multi-day event. Eg. A long coloured bar across multi-days.
This may seem moot to some… however as a dedicated iCal user it almost the opposite. If I want to visually see the multi day event spanning across a date range when I want to create a multi-day event I need to place a check in the “all day” box and I will see my coloured line. If I don’t check “all day” I see in iCal a single entry for the multiday on the first day at the specified time. So therefore in Solve I naturally checked the “all day” box expecting the same behaviour.
However
Two things arise out of this,
Firstly I still use iCal and I sync with Google (So therefore my sync is; Solve to gmail to iCal), so I end up with a problem (I can live with for now) which is, I can no longer get the multiday view in iCal because the gmail entry reflects the non “all day” multi-day entry from solve.
Secondly - this begets the issue of why; if the “all day” is checked in Solve for a multi-day range, and those multi days appear in the Solve calendar as single all day events, why aren’t all the single multi-day entries being entered into gmail, and just the first one?
This was a copy of an entry to support. I have posted this thinking it might help a mac newbie like myself.
Cheers
Rob

Solve creates separate all day events for the date range
This is incorrect. This is an assumption based on the display in Solve360 ( Solve360 doesn’t currently show multi-day events as a horizontal bar) and it was an issue related to syncing all day events, which has been corrected (existing synced events need to be updated)

If the ‘All Day’ box is checked in Solve360, iCal should now show the event as a multiday event as well.

If All day is checked for a multi-day event in Solve360, it will show as single day events spanning the days specified. Solve360 currently doesn’t show a multi-day event as a horizontal block. In Google Calendar however, you should see the horizontal bar for a multi-day event, spanning the duration of the event.

Brilliant it is as you have said. Nice work on the fix!

Like the new syncing it is working well for us. One additional feature that would be a useful is the ability to sync events to a non user specific Google calendar. Example we have a companywide “Event” calendar in Google that our entire company can see and if they choose they can copy specific events over to their personal calendars. Because the events that are on this calendar are directly linked to our project blogs, all the details are pulled into the Google calendar from Solve.
Currently, we have the following scenario set up - load the calendar event into a project blog without an attendee, publish the calendar in Solve for “no specified attendees”, then tell Google to pull the Solve url. One major issue with this has been we have to set up the url pull for each of our users in Google. So when a user comes the conclusion that google must simply not be syncing because the event they just loaded in Solve isn’t showing up within the 5 seconds it took them to click over to the G-Cal, what do they do - Reset the URL! So then everybody’s calendars stop syncing and we have an admin gone spazo on our hands. (wanna be power users - got to love em!)
The ideal solution would be - using your new Google cal sync if we could tell Solve to sync the “no specific attendee” cal to a sub calendar created in one of our Google admin accounts. This way we could allow access to all users via Google to this Cal without the url issue.

Hi guys.
First post and a new Solve360 user. Let me just say that Solve360 is the solution I’ve been looking for, for years.
I’m a new Google Apps user and still on the trial period so I don’t know if that is affecting the calendar sync or not.
Only one item that has been entered into a project blog is appearing in my Google calendar. It was a “follow up” entry.
I have many other project blogs created and most have sub items with dates attached.
Any idea as to why only this one item would appear and nothing else? Does any type of activity that is assigned a date appear or only “follow up” entries? If I create a “task List” and assign a due date, will that appear in my calendar?
Thanks for any help you can provide. I am already a big fan and looking forward to seeing Solve360 becoming a big success and having it be an integral part of our business.

Actually that is what I’m trying to wrap my head around right now. Groups, rights, etc.
For the longest time we used a shared Google calendar. It’s just registering that I think I need to allow Solve360 act as the rights manager so to speak and let everyone sync to their own calender through 360 and not share a calendar through google.
That way only things they have the rights to see will appear on their calendar. Correct?

As a best practice, we recommend that each user syncs only his/her events to Google. That way each user is accountable for one’s own calendar events - there will be no confusion seeing events belonging to other users. Now if there is a need to share personal calendars with eachother, you can do so in Google.

The issue I’m dealing with is that many times we have more than one person involved on a project. We can’t really “assign” a project to just one person.
I make a sale and attach the purchase order to the project Blog which I’ve given a category tag of “PO”. My office manager creates a Sales Order in Quickbooks, schedules a truck from our shipping broker and attaches the Sales Order to the project Blog. She also adds the shipment date as well as attaches the load sheet for my warehouse manager to see.
All of us need to be able to see the various documents and dates.
I’m still unclear about what exactly what determines what appears in the calendar sync.
I know 360 is designed to be used by many different types of businesses, I’m just trying to figure out the best way to configure it for our particular business.

Just to clarify, the best practice above is only meant for calendars syncing to google. You can make an event related to everyone in Solve360 but in google you are only syncing events that you are attending.
As far as project blogs go, you can have only one person assigned to the blog ( think of it as the person who will be in charge of the blog) and you can additionally relate the blog to multiple contacts. Note that for the contacts and blog to be related, they need to share the permission - i.e: same workgroup permissions.
For the calendar sync, only events resulting from a ‘Schedule a followup’ activity syncs to google currently.

Let me say again how much I love 360 so I hope my comments and suggestions aren’t taken as anything but a desire to help make it better for small businesses, or at least mine ;)
For me, calendar syncing and integration are everything. Whether it’s the iPhone or Android, if it has a date attached to it, I need to see it on my calendar. That way I can have one spot to view daily, weekly and monthly items in various views, agendas. If I create a task list and a task has a due date, I need to see it on my calendar.
It would be perfect if any item/activity in 360 that has the ability to assign a date to it, to have that item appear in my Google calendar.
Even better would be a calendar global settings area where each user could toggle the default on/off for calendar syncing for each item/activity that is sync-able.
Thanks again for such a great product.
Brett
PS- You said that currently only events that are ‘Schedule a followup’ are synced with Google. Does the ical feed sync everything with a date or is that limited to “schedule a followup” as well?
