Additional Tags field

On Form Fields, in addition to “Add new select box,” it would be great to also be able to “Add new Tags field.”

With a second field of tags or even a third, we could cross-reference a single contact by more than one type of tag.

(This is a slightly refined version of a request I previous made for a second Category field, back when it was known as Category instead of Tags.)

Hi Peter,

In addition to your request do you think it might be useful to have a common set of tags for contacts, blogs and companies (and possibly emails, pictures and files) instead of a unique list for each?

Maybe as an option. For my purposes, I’m thinking it may come in handy to have different tags for contacts, blogs, and companies.

On contacts, I’m going to use the tags for client names, to associate a particular reporter with several clients on my press list.

Whereas on companies and blogs, the name of the record itself will identify the client name.

Hi Peter, I don’t know if it applies in your case but I wanted to ensure you are aware of the related-to feature i.e. you can relate contacts (clients?) to another contact (reporter?).  This comes together when you notice that you can now filter by the related-to field (thanks to Kathleen Howard for the tip). For example you could list all clients “related-to” a reporter etc.

We have hundreds or even thousands of reporters we’re pitching for each client, so I’m imagining that the related-to feature would just result in a huge long list of names or hotlinks, right? Easier to tag the reporters with several clients’ names apiece.

As a workaround for not having a second field of tags for the reporters’ beats—we’ve just created a set of select boxes, named “Primary beat,” “Second beat,” and “Third beat.” If you have a moment to take a look at our Contacts form fields, you’ll see what I mean.

I can see the multiple tag fields being useful for our work as well. A simple example would be sorting through our global suppliers.  I could have one tag for ‘supplier’ in general that would bring up the long list of all known ‘suppliers’. Then refine the list by cross referencing with the other tag fields by selecting ‘food’ or ‘packaging’ or ‘equipment’ and ‘Asia’ or ‘North America” or ‘Australia’.  Ending up with a short list of just ‘packaging’ ‘suppliers’ in ‘Asia’.  Then when you click on the “Show” menu in the contacts view you could select “tag” and the menu would keep folding out as you selected the relevant tags ending up with the desired list.
