Struggling with Google Sync

New Solve360 user(s) here…

Trying to wrap my head around the Google Sync capabilities of Solve360.

Our domain was set up with Google Apps (non-paid version) some time ago and we were using it mainly for mail.  We have since moved our mail to Rackspace and while we’d likely prefer to keep it there, we are not opposed to moving it back if it means tighter integration with Solve360.

Question on mail…what would we gain by moving our email back to Google Apps over using our Rackspace account?

As for syncing…

I have enabled syncing for contacts and calendars but nothing is happening.  I’d really like to set this up but I could really use some help.  I feel as though the instructions are extremely simple and therefore there must simply be something wrong with our configuration that isn’t allowing sync to take place.  That or I’m just missing something really obvious…

Is there more detailed documentation on setting up sync for all of our users?

What we would like:

Sync each user’s calendar in Solve360 with their respective Gmail calendar (which we’d prefer to share between the 3 of us)
Sync contacts in Solve360 to either a shared repository in Google…or at least have access to our own contacts.

Thanks!!
Doug

I’m assuming you added a tag to each of the contacts that you want to sync? Tags become Groups in your Google contacts

We support both Rackspace and Google for webmail so you shouldn’t see a difference there. The only difference with Google Apps is that you would get access to Single Sign-On and the Gmail Gadget. For more information on these please refer to http://www.norada.com/answers > Everything Google http://goo.gl/4hIDW

Couple of questions. Did you enable each of them under Workspace > Add-Ons? As well, did you configure them? For Contacts, follow Workspace > Manage Contacts > Data > Synchronize Contacts with Google and for the Calendar, follow Workspace > Reports and Update Activities > Calendar Events With > Data > Synchronize Events With Google. For further assistance, please reach out to us directly so we can take a look at your account.

In your Calendar Sync Settings mentioned above, you have the option of syncing only events that you are attending to your Google Calendar. Then each of you can share your ‘personal’ calendars between yourselves. This is also a best practice so that its less confusing since events that you are not attending do not show on your personal calendars. Each user is able to sync all contacts that one has permission to access to his/her own Google Account and hence you’d have access to your own contacts as well as shared contacts.

Hi & thank you for the reply.  I have continued trying to enable sync using various methods that you outlined and I’m not able to sync anything at all.  It’s becoming clear that I’m either doing something wrong or there’s something wrong with my Google Apps account.

Can you please look to see what’s happening on Solve’s side when trying to sync?

At this point, Google is basically a blank canvas (although there are contacts there that were used to import to Solve when we created our account).  Ie: I’m not concerned about losing data in Google…Solve is the “up to date” version.  Google calendars are empty.

Thanks again,
Doug
