Multipick - Custom Fields

It would be nice to be able to have multiple selections in custom fields.

What type of data are you wanting to select on?  Could you provide an example?

Sure. If I have a custom field that says what type of profession a contact is - accountant, attorney, MBA, etc., I can only select one. I would like to be able to select if someone is both an attorney and an MBA. This is pretty standard on CRMs and other databases. I know I can use tags to do something like this but the number of tags is already getting pretty out of control.

LOL okay, yes tags would be an option but I understand your point. Thanks for the tip.

TB, what you talk of is possible on the desktop. But I have not seen tags *on the web* that allow databases or CRMs to sort multiple selections in the same tag.

Who knows what will be possible when HTML 5 comes out next year.

Suppose something similar is possible through database searches. But it is nicer to use tags.

Floydie, thanks for the feedback. What I am really trying to get away from is all the tags - we have over 30 so far and are just getting set up and have not even input a project. I don’t know what I am going to do when we get to 300.

In any CRM or database that I have seen the custom fields are set up by type - date, currency, text, check box, select, etc. also the ability to add a new selection on the fly. We sort contacts and companies by location and a number of custom fields in order to define a target market group. It is very difficult with tags to say “show me a list of all accountants in the 713 area code with over $1M in sales that specialize in energy”. When we start tracking this example project and their status via tags and we get to projects 2, 3, 4 we are going to have a million tags. It would be much easier just to have robust custom fields on the same 5-10 criterion that we use all the time.
