New feature: Track proposals, bids and estimates with the new Opportunity feature

Today we added another exciting feature called “Opportunity”.  An Opportunity is an activity type that you attach to a Contact or Company to track proposals, bids and estimates your team is managing.

Opportunities across all of your company’s leads and clients are neatly summarized in the Activity Dashboard window under the “Show opportunities managed by…“ filter option.

With Opportunities you’ll have great visibility into your future revenue pipeline - listing which proposals are still out for bid, who’s managing them, when you’re expecting to hear back, what stage is the deal at, what is the probability of closing, which ones you won, which ones you’ve lost and why.

We have a few final tweaks left to add next week but you can get started without delay!

That’s great, was going to be doing this with custom fields. The activity report for opportunities is exactly what I was looking for also. Great work, am now convinced.

I am already utilizing the opportunities feature and I have a couple of thoughts - would it be possible to define our own status choices in the drop down box?

Here is why I ask: I have previously developed a pipeline status system for our company that I currently use along with our design and proposal software.  In the future, I intend to use the API to link the proposal software with Solve360.  For now, I would just like to make the pipeline status on each match to eliminate confusion.  Perhaps, there could be a check box to denote whether the note field is visible or not (like the “we won” or “we lost” status).  I use the status of a project to determine the time necessary to complete it. I currently use the word “Status” rather than “Stage” to define the part of the pipeline that the project is in.  Any way to make this an editable field too?

Another request - is there any plan to add a “Total” field in the Activity dashboard?  For example, a user could quickly filter down to the opportunities to be viewed and see a total dollar amount at the bottom of the page.

Thanks again - this is a powerful new feature!

Thanks for the feedback and tips Chip.

We are on the same page about adding a summary of totals in the Activity Dashboard report.

Which ones would you like to see added to the list?

Right now we need THB (Thai Baht), SGD (Singapore Dollars) and MYR (Malaysian Ringit)... if you are doing totals will you be using exchange rate service to automate this? The problem I see with that is that we use a standard exchange rate which we fix monthly, this ensures that all numbers agree between different forms and applications.

In fact, it occurs to me that multi-currency totals with a fixed exchange rate across the system may not work at all as your totals would be changing continually as you updated the rates. This would throw the numbers off in comparison to our accounting package which maintains the figure as it was originally inputted, with the original exchange rate. Perhaps each opportunity would need a different exchange rate, but then you would need to define a ‘reporting currency’ to compare against.

What are your plans in solving the multi-currency totals?

Thanks for this.  We’ll look at adding additional currecy options in the dropdown.

Our intention was to summarize the currencies but not convert them to a common currency.

this is an excellent feature!

for freelancers, could there be a per-week interval in between days and months?

or would it be better to just do a decimal of a month ie 2 weeks = .5 months.

Sure, you will see Week(s) added on the next update.  Thanks for the tip.  BTW You can use .5 to represent 1/2 a month.

This is great. I second the thought on having custom status fields.

It also needs its own page in the Workbook - Manage Opportunities.

It also needs its own page in the Workbook - Manage Opportunities.

Do you mean “Activities Dashboard, Show opportunities managed by…“ or something different?

It should be its own page. As in a “Manage Opportunities blog” where one can see and update all Opportunities. I guess it is the same or really similar to the existing blog. It most CRMs this is like an Opportunity blog pre-sale. Post-sale it would become the Project Management blog (this is missing from most CRMs).

I can’t even figure out now how to Show Opportunities. Is there a sort for that?

“Workspace, Activities Dashboard, Show opportunities managed by…“ is the single page to view all opportunities (of all statues e.g. won, lost, in progress, on hold etc).  All opportunities can be filtered and updated from this view page.

Can you create a couple opportunities and then opened this page (click refresh view).  Does this help?

Thanks - I found it. I still think it warrants it’s own page. Opportunities aren’t really Activities. It would be the epicenter of our Solve360 as it would be for any CRM used for sales/marketing.

We added many new secondary currencies today (including the ones you suggested).  You just need to relogin to see the update.

I find that the addition of a Title for the Opportunity would be welcome… This is due to our need to track Proposal codes. I understand that many users will not be using Proposal codes or id’s so would it be an improvement to keep the description, but add in title above it? then we could use the title as the Proposal ID, while also including real descriptive proposal information.
