RSS feeds

Hello,

Awesome product you have here. I am findings news ways to integrate it into our business everyday and really appreciate the level of automation it is adding to previously burdensome tasks.

I have a question about RSS feeds from project blogs I hope you can help me with. I want a select team of our Solve users to be notified every time activity is posted in one of our blogs. When I select the RSS button, add them and myself to the feeds list, then add the feed url and pswd to my readers none of them will display the blog or changes to it. The message I get in the readers (I’ve only tried Bloglines and the reader in the Mac Mail client) is: No feeds were found. Please verify that the website publishes an RSS feed. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Appreciate the help, and keep up the great work.

Regards, Mike.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for that! Since our feeds contain confidential data you’ll need a reader that supports “Authentication”.  Not all readers have this feature working well yet (Mac Mail is one of them).  Have you tried NetNewsWire?  Outlook 2007 also appears to work well with secure feeds.

If you’re considering a web based reader ensure that the data won’t end up in a public index.

Google Reader dosen’t appear to support private feeds yet i.e. those requiring a username/password including Gmail.

Perhaps there’s workaround using something like FreeMyFeed.

Tip subscribing to authenticated feeds from Outlook courtesy of @bdesilva:

You can’t choose tools/accounts to setup the account like a normal rss feed. I doesn’t prompt for authentication. If you right click on the outlook email list folder for RSS Feeds and choose Add… it works.
