Today we implemented dozens of improvements which are either subtle or “under-the-hood”. Many of these were suggested by clients just like you. Some areas of the system are now 2-5 times faster and more enhancements are on the way. If it feels a bit smoother today, you’re not dreaming.
A release wouldn’t be interesting unless we added a few new features, so while we’re at it let me tell you about two big ones:
1) Project blogs now sport a “Notifications” button which lets you keep people up-to-date on changes to the project blog by automatically sending them an email as activities change, or sending a personal message notifying them about an important update when you decide.
2) You can now add your own fields to every type of activity in the system. Along with customizing your contact, company and project blog forms, you can now add that “special field” you’ve always wanted to your event, opportunity or task form. You can start using these fields now and we’ll work them into the various activity reports soon.
Just to test if Kathleen actually reads these posts, pressing <enter> in the search box will now automatically open up the first record in the search results list. It’s actually quite useful, so give it a try.
Among the subtle tweaks here are a few that deserve special mention:
1) Webmail no longer takes focus from other applications when a new email arrives.
2) In the Webmail message list you can now select any group of email messages with a <ctrl><click>, <click> (windows) or <alt><command><click>, <click> (Mac).

great update - custom fields for opportunity is absolutely killer.
be great if notification could be “when someone posts a comment”
that’s somehow better than email them when I update manually in that I don’t have to send them an email and show them what’s been updated, the comments will do that for me!

That’s just awesome! This is going to help us *a lot*!
Will you be adding the possibility of hiding certain (standard) activity fields from the view? For example, we don’t really need a probability *and* a stage, so would rather only see one of them. No show-stopper, but just nice to have.
keep up the great work guys!

Our next step will be to introduce the custom fields to the various reports. It will be a bit tricky to change many of the standard fields, but we like the system to be very configurable so you never know.

Understand. Having custom fields in the reports is already great!
Just having the option to not display a standard field (just like you have now in contact/blog where you have the option to display in form/horizontal view, et cetera) would already be great. But again, it’s not a show-stopper!

We love being able to customize our fields! As we have customized our “track an opportunity” I noticed that if the name of the new field is too long it runs into the box to put text, or worse, runs over a drop-down box to check, making it impossible to check. Any way to tweak?
Also, I love the drop-down box feature. We often have an “other” category as a catch-all. We’d love to add a text box next to the other drop-down so we can manually type what the “other” means.
Finally, we love the value calculator but we don’t have the same revenue projections for each year in a multi-year project. Often we have a first year with a higher value for implementation, etc. and then recurring payments over time. Would love to be able to customize to track that. Thanks!

@mgold - hah yah! i was just goin to write about your first point. I totally agree.

@mgold: for recurring revenues, you could just keep adding Opportunities to the blog. Not the cleanest way, but it might work

We echo the sentiments of the others that ‘the add a custom field’ is very helpful especially in the opportunity category.
We will need a way to see that added field in the Activities Dashboard as well as a way to filter on that new field. We have added a field for ‘finance entity’ and we want to be able to sort by that entity to insure we are not getting too many opportunities to one firm and also to be able to track the closure for each firm.
Thanks again for this EXCELLENT enhancement.

Custom fields option for Opportunities is great, but will be more useful when these custom fields are worked into reports and lists or can be exported via the dashboard report views. Keep working on it! Thanks.
