How do we attach e-mails to companies?
|
|
|
|
|
It’s not fully implemented yet but it will work the same way as blogs and contacts e.g. add a “linked email” activity, key on specific fields (company name, email address).
Looking at the list now this should be out in about a week.
It is safe to send the messages to the dropbox now; they will automatically link up when the changes are deployed.

Great news!
We are a 6 person team that deals with different individuals at the same company. We much prefer being able to attach all correspondence; events; etc under the company record instead of the individual contact. It is easier to find all the info and is a big help in getting the big “picture” of what’s going on with that company.
Thanks.

We’ll be pulling the domain name from the Company’s website address. This way it will pull / roll up ALL the related messages from the dropbox into the company record regardless of contact person. Should give you the ‘bird’s eye view’ you’re expecting without doing anything special.

Are you saying that a dropboxed message sent to ABC at XYZ company will be attached to both the contact AND the company?

First off, you win for the fastest response ever.
But, WOW! Some of the wonder you create just leaves me speechless.
Thanks for all you do.
P.S. Dare I ask for an easier way to delete records? Like Gibbons swinging thru the trees, we are enjoying our new found freedom of jumping from contact/company/contact/project/contact etc but we often find ourselves stranded on a record that needs deletion with no easy way to delete from the record itself.
(You are on a roll, so be nice now . . . . )

Will they “related to” field ever relate to companies?

I might need an example to fully understand what you’re looking for.
Behind the scenes companies, contacts and blogs are all managed through a “related-to” system. However, to enhance usability company is abstracted out and shown as a separate entry on contacts and blogs (leaving related-to specific to contacts and blogs).
I think you can currently tie everything together except companies to companies.
e.g.
contacts to other contacts
contacts to blogs
contacts to companies
blogs to other blogs
blogs to contacts
blogs to companies (this weekend)
companies to blogs and contacts

Leave it to me to ask the ONE thing that can’t be done, eh?
The Long Story: Company with six contacts; I created another company that provides third party services (engineers, architects) to the first and wanted to be able to relate them. Often times we don’t have a contact at those companies but need to keep the info handy.
Sorry to highlight that one little chink . . . .

Kathleen Howard - Aug 21, 2008 04:24pm How do we attach e-mails to companies?
Can you retry this one too? Remember to enter the company’s website so we can grab the domain.

Sorry to take so long but I have been trying to do this for awhile.
Emails would not attach to the first contact or his company, so maybe there is something wrong with that record.
Tried another contact 5 times and different ways with no success. the e-mail did attach each time to the contact but not the company. Did all refreshes, etc.
Tried just the contact name in body of message; just the website in body of message; just the company name in body; and combinations thereof.
What am I missing (other than Happy Hour)?

Can you email support@ what you entered as the value for the “website” field in the company record?
Also, did you reload the company record / click refresh after adding this value?

Ah… thanks, two things.
1) You needed to add a “linked email” activity (companies do not have this activity added automatically like contacts)
2) You needed to share the company so it could access the dropbox
I made these changes for you, can you confirm . . .
|
|
|
|
|
Hadn’t noticed that the company wasn’t shared.
FYI - emails without the website address also linked. So it must be pulling the domain name off the e-mail address?
Please confirm, because this would be so much easier.
Also noticed the contact title now appears in the navigation pane.
Very nice.
Thanks.

Actually the big thing was adding the linked email activity. If that was there it would have nudged you to share the company.
The “Linked emails” activity is relating email messages from the dropbox using two criteria: 1) the company name, 2) extracting the domain from the website field. This provides all correspondence with, or related to that company e.g. even if you had an internal email that mentioned the company it would appear in the list.
Yep the title is there now, but it only shows the company name if there is a title, we’ll have that tweaked soon.

another company / contact question
Is there any way to to have the ‘company’
export as a field entry when exporting a cont (vs company) search list ??
the contact’s company seems to get lost in the export as currently set up.

|
|
|

We’re almost there. This week we added it to the horizontal view. Next week you’ll find it in the export.

Contact listing
second line showing contact’s job titler and company == GREAT++ ==
It appears that the company does not show if there is no job title entered ...
Is this really the way you want it ??
Not having BOTH happens either through staff entry sloppiness or we do not just do not have it yet ...
Still it would be nice to have the company show if there is no job title entered.

That’s actually the way it’s intended to work (showing company even if Job Title is not entered). It will be corrected in the next update.
