Searching field and filenames the same as GoogleApps Site Search Feature

Greetings

When I search for a particular file name i.e. ANC (Anti-nup Contract)it pulls a short listed display of the contacts in the contacts pane which contain the words ANC.

However if the client name contains ANC in an Address then it pulls it as well and in some cases I get 7 contacts displayed making the narrow searching more difficult as I have to go into each contact to see which one displays the information I’m searching for.

I was wondering if the search function could be upgraded to the same format as is displayed in GoogleApps Site Intranet facility where you type the name or words you are searching for and it brings up a seach list the same as google where it displays the filenames and contacts, tasks etc… with the appropiate item searched for and highlighted, and once you click on it it takes you to that file or page.

This would be great particularly with contacts that have a lot of section headers and files underneath them and you are trying to search for a particular file quickly.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Danny,

Solve is quite unique in that it provides essentially a full-text search option.  For example, lets say you get a voice email and can only make out a few details such as part of a phone number.  Solve can find the record for you.  It’s not Google yet, but it’s quite an unusual feature for a business application.

You can narrow the scope of the search by changing the filter from “Show All contacts where any field contains…“ to “Show all contacts where any activity field starts with”.  That should help reduce the results list where you can then pinpoint the page you’re looking for.  Within each page you can press <ctrl<f> to search for the text on that particular page.

Highlighting text is something we’d like to layer on this process, stay tuned…

Hi,

I wanted to post on this thread because I ran into a similar situation that special ops mentions.  I got phone message that was garbled, but I have caller id.  I went to search by the number in contacts.  I was having problems locating the contact and then tried experimenting with known contacts’ numbers to see if I could ‘find’ them.

I found an interesting quirk.  For contacts where I wrote the phone number as (123) 456-7890, solve will only let you search by the breaks in the number.  For example, if you put in 123, the contact will come up.  But if you put in 1234 it will not.  Also if you put the number in parentheses (123) it cannot find the contact either.  Solve is able to find the contact if you put in 456 (but not 456-) and also searching for 7890.

On the other hand, I found that if you put the number in the contact form as 1234567890, without the standard breaks, Solve will find any portion of the number you search for.  This includes searching by the numbers in the middle like 5678.

Good point fishbread. This is an area that can use some tweaking, but following your lead users should avoid any problems. Thanks for sharing.
