Can you import activities?

Hi,
I am already using Constant Contact and want to import activities by email contact. For example the click-thrus to a particular page that Constant Contact has recorded. That way I am pushing new activity information about a particular contact to the sales team. Otherwise it seems I have to manually add activity information to each individual contact which is hopeless when for example we know that fifty names have clicked through to a specific page indicating some sort of interest. Can I update activities by list of email contact or some other unique ID?

Many thanks Patrick

If you have a report that includes the name or email address of all the contacts, you can simply email it to your dropbox address and the single message will be automatically linked to each contact’s page under the “linked-emails” activity.

That sounds great, where can I find out how this feature works? Specifically I would have a CSV file from Constant Contact which would have the email address and the date / time the contact opended a specific page.

Is this how I would bulk update other information such as recording when an existing contacts attended an event? It sounds a bit awkward.

Regards Patrick

We’re refering to the standard way linked-emails works.

A single message forwarded to the linked-emails dropbox will link to the all appropriate contacts because their email address is mentioned inside the message somewhere.  It’s a simple trick to pop a record of things like an email campaign onto a contact’s page.  Actually it’s similar to how our own “Group Recipients” feature works.  I think it’s value doesn’t go far beyond that.

I have another Import question. I have now set up a new field in contacts and want to populate this with data for an existing contact. I have set up a CSV file with the unique contact email address and some data for the new field. Although the file goes through the import process and Solve recognises the new field, the additional data doesn;t transfer and the contact record doesn’t update with the news data.

Does this mean that the import function is essentially a once off operation for each contact and can’t be repeated to bring in new contact data fields?

Thanks Patrick

The import matches on the combination of first name and last name (email address is not the key to identify unique records).  Subsequent imports will update existing records and will not create duplicates.  If you match on both names and use the CSV import option you will be able to populate the new field as you need.
