Tags, Aren’t Just For Prices Anymore
If you're not familiar with the concept of using tags here are a few words to explain what tags are, what you can do with them and why this simple feature is so useful.
Tags Help You Organize Your Stuff
Almost 40 years ago Xerox introduced the idea of folders to mimic how people handled paper documents back then. Until recently, when we needed to find something we located it based on a series of folder names. Using tags is similar to folders but there are a couple of important differences:
A tag is simply a descriptive label (keyword, term, phrase) that is attached to something like a Contact, Company, or Project Blog, so that it can quickly be found later and / or grouped into targeted lists.
| Folders | Tags |
![]() | ![]() |
Not only do tags make it easy to find things, they also make it possible to generate some useful lists that drive your business processes. For example, let’s say you wanted to classify a contact named Bob Smith as a “Qualified Prospect” who heard about your company at the “2009 Trade Show”, simply check those two tags off on Bob's contact page. You will do the same for all of your contacts as you work with them - checking off the various tags to characterize your relationship with them. When you need to produce a list of lets say, all your qualified prospects, simply choose “Show Qualified Prospect” from the toolbar. From there you can sort the list of contacts having that tag and review each person's history (calling on them to keep in touch), or export the list to another application.
